Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center Oral History Project [Dr. Bernard Vagner]: Dr. Streets was a wonderful person. He had some very interesting stories to tell. Now this was right during the middle of the Depression. Apparently, these people that came in there were… they were well dressed. And there was several of them. They brought one guy in who apparently was having a lot of dental [trouble]. And they told him, “Can you do this?” He said, “Yes.” “If you hurt him, you know we’re going to have to kill you.” So he mixed his stuff up, fixed his tooth—and it didn’t hurt him. And these guys, when they got ready to go out, just threw him a hundred-dollar bill and kept going. He never saw them again. But he was just a nice person.
