[John Charles Bryant]: Olivet AME Church, African Methodist church, is the oldest black church in South Bend. Olivet was built in the 1870s, and the Farrow Powell family gave the money to build the church. Much of the money. And Farrow Powell, about four or five of his children, were trustees of the church in the 1870s.
